Howdy all!

I just found this site from a link at another boating site. I'm finishing a 1966 Lone Star Medallion II 16ft Runabout. It was in rough shape when I got it 2 and 1/2 years ago, and I figured I would get some use out of it before doing a makeover. I started on it last September right after Labor Day weekend, and I'm almost done with the old girl. Here's a couple pics for your enjoyment.

To start with, I had to rip out the decking as it was waterlogged. The injection foam core between the decking and hull was also waterlogged 2/3s forward from the transom, so it had to go. The hull bottom on the starboard side had a 3 inch 3-way tear in it that needed repair, and the general condition of the hull bottom on the that side was rough. I guess the previous owners liked mooring over nasty rocks or submerged structure. But my son and I have built and installed 11 aluminum bulkheads, patched the tear in the hull bottom, replaced the decking with new 3/4 plywood, added a proper bilge drain that can be used to suck water out of the boat if you open it while planed off. I've also built a ledge 4 inches tall for the windshield to sit on, so I don't have that top frame right at eye level. And a lot of other refurbishments that are too many to name. My Uncle said the pictures look like a time warp, back to the 60s, as it's starting to look like a new boat.

The only thing I decided on that's not classic is the powerplant. I like the idea of getting out on the water and having fun, not messin' with the engine, so I decided on a new Evinrude E-Tech 40 to scoot around the lakes with. Plus I can go from Denver to Steamboat, to John Martin to Seminole and never futs with the carbs anymore. Sounds good to me, as I'ld rather be fishin'.

Anyways, this looks like a cool place to visit on my trek to completion, I only hope to make the end of the fishing season before the docks are pulled from the lakes.

Almost there, the tedious work on the interior is in fuul swing.
